 JOB OPPORTUNITY – Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) Operator
Are you a skilled wastewater professional who takes pride in environmental stewardship, public service, and keeping vital systems running? The Alderwood Water & Wastewater District (AWWD) is seeking a full-time Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) Operator to join our Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Department. In this essential role, you'll help safeguard public health and the environment by ensuring high standards of treatment and compliance across our operations.

About the Role:
As a WWTF Operator, you’ll be part of the dedicated team responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining AWWD’s wastewater treatment facility to ensure compliance with District, local, state, and federal regulations. Reporting to the WWTF Manager and working closely with the Lead WWTF Operator, you’ll play a key role in daily plant operations, laboratory analysis, and process control. Key focus areas include:
  • Monitoring plant operations and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, tanks, and other systems.
  • Conducting lab tests and evaluating results for BOD, TSS, pH, chlorine residuals, and more.
  • Adjusting processes to ensure regulatory compliance and efficient biological treatment.
  • Gathering, calculating, and reporting performance data to management and regulatory agencies.
  • Diagnosing mechanical or operational issues and taking timely corrective action.
  • Supporting a safe and efficient working environment through inspections and hazard mitigation.

Hourly Salary:
$38.99 - $52.25 per hour

Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a wastewater treatment plant operator, including laboratory testing and maintenance of primary and secondary treatment systems.
Education: High School Diploma or GED, with training in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
Licensing Requirements:
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Washington State Wastewater Operator Certification Group II or higher.*
  • Industrial First Aid Card
  • CDL endorsement may be required for promotional opportunities or business needs.
*Must obtain at least a Washington Operator Certification Group II within 6 months of hire.
