Utility Maintenance Worker - Apprentice
Annual Salary Range:
$56,286 - $69,135; two-year limited term/full-time position.
Within 12 months of hire, employee will be licensed for:
• Water Distribution Manager 1
• Cross Connection Control Specialist 1
• Forklift Certification
• Certified Work Zone Traffic Control (Flagging Card)
• CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens/First Aid/AED Certification
This position falls under an Apprenticeship Program requiring 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, and 288 hours of formal training over a two-year period. Upon successful completion of the program, the candidate will be fully qualified in multiple aspects of water and wastewater
operations. Work generally entails regular and recurring installation, repair, and maintenance of District water and sewer systems.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Installs, repairs, and maintains water system components.
• Operates vehicles, small tools, and other equipment.
• Repairs street curbs, streets, and sidewalks cut during
system component installation or repair.
• Locates water and sewer mains, manholes, water services
and side sewers; inspects newly installed water and sewer
services; raises and/or repairs related components.
• Services and maintains small tools and equipment.
• Provides traffic zone control (flagging) as required.
• Processes work orders and assists in final project inspections.
• Reads water meters; helps verify meter re-reads, checks for
leaks, and informs customers of high consumption.
