Maintenance Electrician
Midway Sewer District – Maintenance Electrician

• Position: Maintenance Electrician
• $43.01 to $56.60 per hour

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

The Midway Sewer District is currently seeking a Maintenance Electrician with strong
electrical and mechanical skills to fill the open position. This person will perform tasks
including corrective and preventative maintenance at the wastewater treatment plant, lift
stations and main office.

The successful candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent. An
Associates Arts Degree or applicable vocational training certificate in Industrial electrical
practices, or a mechanical program is preferred. Must have a valid Washington State
driver’s license. Work history as a Washington State Journeyman Electrician level 1 is
preferred but not essential for consideration for this position.

• Must complete confined space training within one (1) year of employment. Must be
physically able to do the work required.

Requirements Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintains regular, predicable attendance.
  • Physical ability to conform to all safety requirements.
  • Accountable for installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and electrical controls to ensure efficient and reliable operation of District equipment.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate records, ordering necessary material, performing preventative maintenance and corrective repairs.
  • Reviews and oversees contractors performing electrical work for the District to ensure that the work performed adheres to the District’s contract specifications.
  • Reviews contract and construction electrical specifications to ensure the longevity and efficiency of equipment and electrical installations.
  • Instructs and directs additional personnel that are assigned to the electrical staff.
  • Exercises sound judgement and decisions within the scope of each assignment.
  • Performs instrumentation installation, calibration, and repairs.
  • Maintains all electrical equipment for the safe operation of both equipment and personnel.
  • Follows all safety requirements set forth by District policy, State and Federal Codes.
  • Monitors and complies with all safety measures and procedures at all times.
  • Available for On-call duty and after hour emergencies.
  • May require shift, weekend, and holiday work.
  • Understands job procedures, rules, safety and enforcement of those policies and procedures.
  • Competently performs all assigned tasks and assists in the training of other Electrical staff as required.
  • Receives instructions and work specifications from the Operations & Collections supervisors.
  • Motivates other staff members to meet quality standards, schedules, and positively contribute to solving work-related problems.
  • Assists in wastewater treatment plant operations as a part of the regular duties.
  • Requires basic knowledge/understanding of wastewater mathematics and their applications for efficient plant operation.
  • Assists in the laboratory under the direction of the laboratory supervisor. Collects samples from various treatment locations, and performs analysis in accordance with Standard Methods reference manual.
  • May be assigned tasks and / or job duties of Operations staff.
Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent. An Associates’ degree or applicable vocational training certificate in wastewater operations, Industrial electrical practices, or a mechanical program is preferred.
  • Must obtain any required certifications or Licenses applicable to the utility such as First Aid and Confined Space Training
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Strong working knowledge of Industrial electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with the National, state and local Electrical Codes and requirements.
  • Skilled in trouble shooting, and calibrating instrumentation process control loops and instrumentation equipment and electrical controls.
  • Ability to operate necessary portable calibration equipment to ensure that electrical equipment is operating correctly and process control is maintained.
  • Ability to perform corrective repairs on all instrumentation, and general equipment as needed.
  • Good mechanical aptitude for tasks such as installing bearings, mechanical seals, motor/drive rebuilds and trouble shooting.
  • Ability to work with limited or no direct supervision on assigned tasks and maintains a safe working environment and complies with all District job procedures, policies and safety guidelines.
  • Skilled in electrical construction practices in an industrial environment.
General Requirement:

  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • May perform task/job duties of wastewater operators in order to balance workload and / or cross-train personnel.
  • Proficiency with common office practices, equipment and software.
  • Other wastewater operator duties as assigned.
Special Requirements:
  • Must have a valid WA State Driver’s License.
  • Within one year of employment you must obtain an OIT (Operator-In-Training) License with the Washington State Department of Ecology.
  • Formal electrical apprenticeship training.
  • Work history as a Washington State Journeyman Electrician level 1 is preferred but not essential for consideration for this position.
