Emily Kijowski works for the WA State Department of Ecology and works on Statewide Policy, technical issues and agency inquiries.
This session will help wastewater districts understand what to expect from the near-term implementation of PFAS-related legislation—particularly regulatory requirements and operational implications. Emily will share an update on the work of the Biosolids Advisory Committee, including:
- Shaping technical guidance: Advising on sampling strategies, analytical methods (e.g., EPA Method 1633A), and frequency protocols.
- Defining standards: Helping to set thresholds and identify actionable levels for PFAS in biosolids.
- Ensuring stakeholder buy-in: Balancing agricultural interests, public health concerns, and wastewater utility operations.
- Framing next steps: Guiding Ecology’s interpretation of PFAS test data and future policy recommendations for the 2029 report.
