Advocacy
WASWD serves the interests of sewer and water districts through effective legislative and legal advocacy.
Two contract lobbyists work closely with legislators, state agencies, and industry partners to get favorable laws and regulations passed. Members of the legislative team testify on legislation as needed. Districts are kept informed of developing legislative issues and political trends and given opportunities to influence the political process. WASWD also provides financial support on legal issues having a significant impact on a substantial portion of our membership.
- Advocating on legislative matters affecting the water and wastewater industry
- Actively engaging with regulators on matters affecting the water and wastewater industry
- Support legal efforts to benefit water and sewer districts across the state
WASWD and NSDC
WASWD joined The National Special Districts Coalition (NSDC) in 2021 to have a voice in Washington, D.C.
NSDC is the only national organization representing and advocating for all special districts at the federal level. A key element of the Coalition’s mission is federal advocacy for special districts to receive equitable access to critical programs available to other local governments.
Membership also includes access to grant resources through the Ferguson Group.
